#3- Friday 8.12.11- live painting in the Spirit room located in Jerom Arizona to The black forest society. 8-11pm

It is Thursday August 11th 3 p.m. and I am packing up my live painting gear for the evening.

The "gear" consists of:
- two pieces of masonite. one piece being 2ft x 2ft, the other 2ft x 3ft.
-one piece of 3ft by 4 ft foam poster board
-foldable aluminum table
-table top easel
-two lights (always bring a back up)
- box of acrylics and brushes art supplies
- and extension cord
-blow dryer (to speed up the drying process)
-and a large rug (to prevent splatter on venue floors)

With everything packed I stop by the local art supply store and drop 100 dollars on art suppplies. I want to try new mediums (i.e.- wood, foam board, inks, and more neon acrylics) and always fear being underprepared. While at the register i let out a sigh while handing over a crisp 100 bill i earned the previous day working at a local restaurant. Its the same sigh a gambling man lets out when he is reconsidering his last move. The man at the register wished me luck as I plan to head to the Martini bar and set up .

The crowd was small this evening but the band played great. The black forest society started with jack green (one of my favorites), which got me in the mood to start immediatly. I throw color onto the white 2ftx 3ft wood panel and the piece starts to form.

  This was the result:

Desert-ed Mind

Live paintings 2 & 3 were both performed on Friday 8-12-11

First I head to Oldtown Cottonwood AZ, to paint outside the ASV wine tasting room for the release party of a bottle of local wine called "canvas". This wine bottle has a blank label so that the owner can design their own label. The Manager of the tasting room invited me to coome paint live outside while the event occured. One small problem... This event was from 6-8 pm and i had to be in a town 30 minutes away to set up at 8 . Solution= go early to the tasting room paint from 430-7pm..ish, then pack up and head to Jerome for the second painting.

Painting outside on the side walk with my art displayed as people drove 10 miles an hour down the road was a pretty awesome experience. I felt like what i was doing was a little more "real" and a little less "fantasy" when compared to painting to live music. I enjoyed and embraced it and this was the result.
3ft by 4 ft

It is now 7pm and i start breaking down and loading up the "gear" and hop in my car ready to book it to Jerome. I make it up the windy switchback mountain roads and try to keep my eyes on the road, and off the amazing mountain view as the sun begins to set. Jerome is a really interesting abandoned and believed to be haunted mining town that sit atop a mountain that overlooks trhe southwestern landscape. The spirit room is an old saloon style bar that also has stories of past hauntings.

There was a small crown of about 20-30  but it was a crowd of quality. I sold the painting that i created this evening as well as the deserted mind painted the night before. suddenly i was reassured that the crisp 100 dollar bill was put to good use. I made it back and also had an amazing day off creating art. The two couples who i met that bought both my painting were very cool, older, motorcycle couples who were teachers and businessmen by day. They were huge fans of my work and I am very excited about these two new friendships. This painting was created i nthe spirit room and sold to one of the couples. #3
